Default FREE test cables to Members

Okay after spending my Xmas and New Year reading up on the OBD-II and MUT Protocols, I am more than confident that I can produce, Hardware, Firmware and software to allow our members to do their own Onboard Diagnostics on their EVO!

If you are interested in this and want to get involved in this project, then reply to this thread so I can get an idea on how many cables I need to sling together FOC of course

The only thing I ask is that if you do sign on for testing this stuff, is to post feedback on the forums, so we can get a list of cars that it is working or not working on.

Do not worry about damaging your Car, all this stuff is read only and I will be using the correct components to protect not only your ECU from getting damaged, but also your computer

There are alot of dodgey diagrams out on the web for homemade cables and I would rather spend a extra £1 on the right components than risk damaging a car or computer.

Not a problem

As soon as the MC33290 chips arrive from Germany (darn Xmas post grrr) will make sure I have the PCB footprint correct for the part and knock up some PCB's!

Will keep updating threads as I do more

You knew it was on the cards, as after working with the std ecu, and the work that has been done on it, I cant see any reason not to go back to it.

And imho, I think tuners are scared of it as we know that it can make the numbers and you don't need to spend £800 on a stand a lone ecu and for them to charge £500 to fit and map it.

Any information you have, please post.

I keep meaning to get around to posting a list of the basics, but it difficult to find time with the dining table full of different circuits I have been testing.

The test cable I have been designing and testing has been using the FTDI chip, but using Com Port serial data rather than direct calls.
Today I did away with the FTDI chip and switched to using a MAX233 chip connected directly to the serial port and got some weird results.

Even though the EVO does not use the L-Line for the MUT protocol, it seems like it may be used to do the INIT for the ECU while using a standard Serial Port cable, in as holding the K-Line High for the initial Init.

This now explains where the Folk Law of switching the data line between K and L while doing the Init to get the ECU's attention.

More to come on this, but the test cables will be based on the FTDI chip for now as it gets around having the L-Line.

When we move onto flashing cables, it now seems that the L-Line is used for communitcating away from the ECU to the ABS and AYC ECU, again more to come when my tests prove this.

i may help in testing (evo IX) - in particular with logging stuff (both EFI and AYC)

Just a quick note to say I have not forgotten you guys

The initial U-OBD cable is working great with my software Mut Monitor as well as EVOscan and MitsubishiLogger.

But I want to sort the ABS and AYC ECU logging proceedure before I knock up some PCB's and get them out the door to you guys.

Been a busy week swapping between different Hardware and Software solutions I have been working on, so will get there promise.

Cheers

Sean.

Right sorted by the looks of it, so no more requests please, you had your chance .

6 cables and 6 different cars
Lee5 with EVO 5
Cossie with EVO6 ( Probably different ECU)
nads1978 with EVO 7
GrayW with EVO 8
FIL78 with EVO 9
GUM EVO X

Prototype PCB's should be back in the next 2 weeks and will PM you guys for delivery addresses nearer the time.

These cables will be the FTDI 232B chips for logging, not Flashing.

I have a few of the Flashing Design ones coming back as well based on the FT232R chip, but will post more on that later. For now will concentrate on the Monitoring/Logging.

All this is free and all I ask is for you guys to post your result and feedback in the forums

PCB pictures as they come along here

http://www.myrollingroad.com/showthread.php?t=87

Hoping to have PCB's back tome this week!

Sorry to say I think we are going to have to exclude the EVO-X from the tests as it looks like it is not going to work as it uses the CAN-Protocol and different Pins.

I have already started looking into the CAN Protocol and have started a new thread on the progress.

Email in today saying Prototype PCB's have been despatched. So should get them soldered up and out to you guys by the end of the week.

Wish it was the new PIC-OBD cable I designed now as I think you would all be blown away at the logging speed.

In saying that, try out the cables I will send out and then Part two will be getting the new PIC-OBD cable out to you, so you can appreciate the speed difference.

I think Final solution will be the Dual cable that has the tradditonal FTDI logging stuff to work with other software and then the PIC-OBD that will do the high speed logging and also the CAN Protcol for the EVO-X vehicles.

It getting there

Hi Graham

I take it you mean MUT Logging for the EVO-X, as after spending the last 2 days with head buried in Mut-Monitor it is growing in strength and supports more cables than any other MUT Logging software out there for EVO 4-9

Cheers

Sean.

Thanks BugaBuga

Will see what I have left over cable wise after knocking up these protoypes and if there is a spare one it is yours.
